Saundra Lou (Strong) Mayfield

Saundra Lou (Strong) Mayfield, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend passed away peacefully on March 14th, at the age of 84, in Lynnwood, WA. She was born in Sterling, CO and married the love of her life, Bobby, in October, 1957. She was married for 64 years and raised 4 boys in North Seattle before settling down in Lake Stevens where she lived for 33 years.

Saundra was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and was the heart and soul of her family – a true foundation upon which they built their lives. She was a pillar of strength for her family, always offering support, love and her opinion – whether you wanted it or not. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in her families hearts. She found joy in spending time with family, reading, playing games and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. She spent years making ceramics to earn a little extra money but also found pleasure in doing ceramics as a hobby. Among many things, she loved Elvis Presley, butterflies, old country music, and her sparkly pink manicured nails.

She is survived by her loving children Mark(Michelle); Scott(Michelle); Wade(Karen); and Drew(Jamie), grandchildren – Natasha; Taylor(Madison); Nicholas(Bryonna); Derek; Adam(Starr) and Sara, 3 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and cherished friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bobby), her parents, Norma and Charles (Charlie) and her brother Gary.

A Celebration of Saundra’s life will be held on Sunday, 04/06/2025 @ 11:00am at Shawn O’Donnell’s Irish Pub Banquet Room in Everett, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization in her memory.

Aunt Sauny was always quick with an opinion on any subject! Sweet as pie but don’t talk bad about her Seahawks or Mariners! :). Our birthdays were close together and the family always celebrated us at the same time–i was honored. Hats off to all the boys for taking care of her–your dad would be proud.

So many things floating around in my head about my mother-in-law. I could honestly drop the in-law part because she has been just as much a mother to me then my own over the last 35 years. She was always there for me. When I struggled with a couple injuries – she was there – cleaning my house, doing my ironing – helping with her grand kids – whatever was needed – she was there. I won’t say that the last 3 years have been easy for her or for me. Watching Alzheimer’s painfully take away this strongly independent woman has been so hard to watch. But with that said – I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m so happy to have been there with her through it all. I hope that she knew that in the end. I will miss her terribly but will remember her for the true matriarch that she was to all of us in the family. I’m happy that she has finally escaped this terrible disease and can be with those that passed before her. I love you mom!

I hope my mom was as proud to call me her son and I was proud to call her my mom. I hope that I am as good a parent as she and my dad were to me. I will always love and miss her.

Hello mommy, just a note to tell you how proud you I am to be a part of the legacy you created in your sons. You did good! It is an honor to be a part of all you created in your family. You were smart, talented and unlike Scott, funny. You will be missed and forever loved. Mickey

Sandra was always a very caring and loving person. She loved all of her family, including aunts and uncles and cousins. Sandra and I always kept in touch even though we lived miles apart. Seeing each other was always a joy even when we fought over the Broncos and the Seahawks, but it was all in fun. Whenever she made ceramics, she never forgot to send me some. She will be missed dearly and always be in my heart.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Saundra, whose kindness and creativity touched so many of us. Her beautiful ceramic birds and the gifts she lovingly made will always hold a special place in our hearts. The traditions she inspired, and the memories of family Christmases filled with her thoughtful creations, will forever be cherished.

Saundra had an incredible spirit—whether it was her passion for Wheel of Fortune, her unwavering support for family, or her encouragement to try new things and embrace life’s adventures. Her strength and generosity shaped us all, making us braver, stronger, and more compassionate. I will never forget the helping hand she extended when my son needed it most.

Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the keepsakes she made, the joy she shared, and the lives she touched. Here’s to the happy memories and the love she brought into our lives.

With deepest sympathy, Roger and Cheryl Meston
