Leonila Buendia Alvarez

 

1934 – 2025

 

Leonila Buendia Alvarez – 1934-2025, passed away in her sleep on January 4, 2025 after battling cancer and dementia.

Leonila was born on December 22, 1934 to Sotero Buendia and Feliza Salcedo in the Philippines. She finished grade school and helped support her parents and siblings.

In 1950 she met Santos Gonzalo Alvarez in Legazpi city. They married and had 5 children. Santos preceded her in death in 1974.

In 1989, Leonila came to the United States and found work as a housekeeper at Lake Vue Gardens convalescent center, where she dedicated her service for 17 years. She enjoyed her job and was loved by her coworkers and the patients. She received several employee of the month awards. She retired in 2007.

Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, cooking, journaling, reading, gardening and puzzles. She enjoyed travel, including trips to the United Kingdom and back to the Philippines. She is survived by her five children – her daughter Elizabeth and her husband Roger Jocom, her sons David and Jacob, her daughter Imelda and her husband Noy Suarez, and her daughter Evangeline and her husband Gerald Cupat. She also has six grandchildren – Angela, Andrea, Lawrence, Sophia, Tristan and Charlotte and two great granddaughters, Chloe and Autumn.

Please join us in celebrating her life at Barton’s Funeral Home at 11630 Slater Ave NE #1a Kirkland, WA on January 12, 2025 from 2:00-4:00PM.
Flowers, mass and prayer offerings are welcomed.
