Fay Ellen George

 

Fay Ellen George, nee Nunns, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, in Bothell, Washington at the age of 84.

Fay was born on July 23, 1940, in Geneva, Nebraska to parents Francis and Edna Nunns.  She grew up on a farm near Geneva and attended country school for the first 5 years before transferring to Geneva public schools.  She graduated from Geneva High School in 1958 and worked for the Nebraska Signal in Geneva for a year before starting college.  She initially attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln before transferring to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.  Go Big Red!

Wanting to move away from cold Midwest winters, she accepted a position teaching kindergarten in Garden Grove, CA.  In the spring of 1964 she met Will George at a party and a love affair began.  They were married in Geneva, NE on December 26, 1964, and initially settled in Garden Grove, CA.  They eventually moved to Bellevue, WA where she continued teaching kindergarten for the Bellevue School District.  She and Will became members of the United Methodist Church in Bellevue where she made many lifelong friends.

She took time off from teaching to raise two children before returning to the workforce.  She then worked for the Redmond Parks Department and then the Lake Washington School District.  In 1993 She and Will moved to Illinois where she continued to work in education, assisting special needs children in the Community Unit School District 300 in Algonquin, IL.

Before moving to Illinois, she became involved in quilting and it became one of the loves of her life.  She was a member of quilting groups in both Washington and Illinois and over the course of her life, made numerous beautiful quilts, many of which were donated to area hospital guilds and other similar organizations.

Fay retired in 2005 and in 2006 she and Will moved back to the Pacific Northwest, settling in Bothell, WA where they joined the Bothell United Methodist Church.

Fay is survived by her husband, Will, son Michael George of Bothell, WA and grandson Reese George, daughter Lisa Nunes (Bryan Nunes) of Mill Creek, WA and grandson Kellen Nunes and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Edna Nunns, brother Gary Nunns, sister Carol Vejraska and brother Dale Nunns.

Her ashes will be interned at the Tahoma National Cemetery near Kent, WA.  There will be a Celebration of Life service in the early Spring of 2025.  Donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
