Duane Eugene Hudson

March 30, 1939  –   August 27, 2024

Duane Eugene Hudson passed away surrounded by his loving family at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA, on August 27, 2024, following a complex three-month health decline. He was 85.

Born March 30, 1939, to the late Vina Marie Hudson (née Terril) and Kenneth Elwood Hudson in Pasco, WA, Duane grew up in Kennewick, WA, where he was high school Student Body President. Following his studies at the University of Washington, he had a career in computer programming for groundbreaking companies such as Burrough’s Corporation, Group Health, General Electric, and Boeing. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nigeria in the 1960s and an adventurous outdoorsman all his life including mountain climbing all seven major summits in the Pacific Northwest. He was an active Kiwanis member; an avid Sudoku player; a water-loving boater, kayaker, and swimmer; a tennis and pickleball player; and a lover of parades, the arts and, in particular, Mexican culture.

Above all, Duane was a vibrant, hardworking, curious and kind person who loved nature, enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, and having fun with people. The world was a brighter place for all who knew Duane and he will be deeply missed. Thankfully, his family and friends are blessed with many stories through which to remember this unique man!

Duane is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years, Diane Hudson (née Warwick), his sister Janice Rohrmann (m. Charles Rohrmann) and brother James Hudson (m. Judy Hudson), son Ronald James Hudson (m. Robin Schwartz), daughter Sharyl Jean Marie Rabinovici (m. Gil Rabinovici), eight adored grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Stepfather to Kevin Halls (m. Jill Halls) and Teri Harmeyer (née Halls), former spouse to Joann Lund (née Fremstad), and proud fun uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Following Duane’s wishes as a self-proclaimed “minimalist,” a private memorial is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Anacortes Kiwanis Club or The Mountaineers, two organizations that reflect his commitment to community and his passion for skillful and joyful exploration of the outdoors.

The family would like to thank the care team at Overlake Medical Center for their compassion, dedication and skill in helping Duane on his last difficult ascent.
