Sonja was born May 18, 1939 to Martha and Hilbert Christensen of Coupeville, WA. She joined her older sister, Anabelle. Sonja graduated from high school in Oak Harbor in 1957 and attended Pacific Lutheran University. She graduated early with a degree in elementary education. She dated Ross Taylor in both high school and college, and they were married in March of 1961. While Ross attended the University of Washington school of dentistry, Sonja taught grade school in the Seattle area until Ross finished dental school. Ross joined the Air Force, and they moved to Southern California, and Sonja continued to teach. They then moved to Portland, OR when Ross was accepted into a two-year residency in orthodontics while attending the University of Oregon. Sonja’s first-born son, Mark, was born in April of 1967. Later that summer, the family moved back to Seattle where Ross opened his own orthodontic practice. In June of 1970, they were blessed with a second son, David. They bought a home and have lived at that same location for nearly 50 years. Some of their fondest memories have been travelling and boating with friends and family.

In recent years, Sonja was diagnosed with dementia, and Ross has been her primary caregiver for over 10 years. The family is grateful for recent assistance from Evergreen Hospice which allowed Sonja to be cared for at home. She passed peacefully with Ross at her side on June 27, 2024. She will be placed in the columbarium on the grounds of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, where they have been members since 1968.

Sonja was preceded in death by her son Mark in 2015. Along with Ross, she is survived by her son David, who lives in Hawaii, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy, who lives in the Tri-Cities.

Thank you for attending Sonja’s service – God bless you!!
