Gary Dale Routley was born on November 26, 1935 and passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2024 with his daughters by his side.  He was 88.

Gary was born in Seattle, WA to parents Earl and LaGletta Routley, and had two younger siblings, Ron and Sharon, who all proceeded him in death.

Gary graduated from Renton High School, class of 1954, and lettered in track and field, with impressive records that were displayed for many years at the High School.

Joining the Marines in June of 1955, Gary spent 4 years endearing his Battalion with his easy-going personality, which made him MANY life-long friends. He did tell me that his favorite time in the service was Boot Camp. 😉 Proud to be a Marine, but missing the civilian life, Gary was honorably discharged as a Corporal on April 1st 1959. No Joke….

Gary was briefly married when he was young and had a son, Rhett with his first wife Gail.

The luckiest day of Gary’s life was when he met and married the beautiful Myriel Parker. They were married in 1966 for nearly 30 years until her passing in May, 1995. Myriel, being a loving and giving person, shared with him, the upbringing of her four delightful young children, Pam 9, Patti 7, Polly 6 and Mike 5.

Loving the sunshine, they moved to Newport Beach, California so he could work on his tan. Eventually moving back to the cities of Washington, Maple Valley, Renton, and his beloved Bellevue.

Gary worked numerous jobs during his lifetime, but being retired and sitting in the sun with his friends and a beer was his most enjoyed.

Gary’s favorite hobby was painting pictures of flowers, animals, landscapes and signs on many types of canvases, such as oars, scrap wood, or whatever was available. He also loved his plants and cooking healthy meals.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings. His grandson from his first marriage, Rhett Rosella Jr. and just 3 weeks after Gary’s passing, his son Mike Parker passed away on May 30th.

He is survived by son, Rhett Rosella, daughters Pam Walvatne, Patti Clarke, Polly (Rick) Potter, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren (who called him triple G for great grandpa Gary). Numerous Nieces and Nephews and Hundreds of faithful friends.

He will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery on July 12, 2024 at 9 am. And a Celebration of Life will be held at the Renton VFW on July 12, 2024 at 3 pm.  All are welcome to either or both. Please share this with others.
