Colleen Sipes
February 26, 1965 — October 4, 2023
Colleen was born in Tacoma Washington to Donald and Margaret Steffens. She attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, Hunt Middle School and graduated from Foss High School in 1983. Colleen loved reminiscing about stories of her childhood years and all the friendships she had made. Colleen married Jeffrey Sipes of Tacoma WA and later had two children, Samuel and Hannah. Colleen is preceded in death by her father Donald, baby sister Mary, and the father of her children Jeff.
Colleen worked for many years at St. Joseph Medical Center in the File Room, Radiology, and eventually the Emergency Room. At 36 years old, Colleen went back to school to become a Registered Nurse. She is remembered and highly respected by the ER staff at St. Joe’s, St. Francis and most recently Kaiser Urgent Care-Capitol Hill. She is described by her coworkers as empathetic, genuine, a true ray of sunshine, one of the kindest, funniest humans and a great nurse.
Everyone that knew and loves Colleen knows about her witty, charming personality and her love of impersonations. Most of us at some point heard her impersonate and lovingly talk about her “little dad”.
In Colleen’s free time, her greatest joys were time with her children, cooking and following all things Hollywood. She was very much a foodie and truly the best cook. She loved anything from greasy diners for omelettes to five-star dining at restaurants like Canlis. Everyone close to her has probably had a special dining experience with her that she organized. It was her love language. Colleen will be missed immensely by so many, always in our hearts and on our minds.
A service for Colleen will be held on November 17th, 2023 @ 11am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Tacoma.

Colleen was always so kind and great person! I will miss her smile and her spunkiness! God has a true angel 😇 💓. Rest easy now my dear…
Colleen was my aunt and one of my inspirations to become a nurse. I remember her growing up always smiling. She was super sweet, had a great laugh and I used to awe at her beauty. The world has lost a great woman. My condolences go out to my cousins Sam & Hannah. I lost a parent earlier this year, and the pain was and still continues to be unbelievable at times. Hugs to both Sam and Hannah. I am truly sorry for your guys’ loss. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hannah, Samuel, and Marge,
I am so sorry about Colleen. I got to know her more on social media and could see her generosity and love for you all. The Wisconsin Steffens families are all thinking about you all and sending love.
This is such an enormous loss. Colleen had a unique ability to listen, offer clever insight, and have you laughing so hard you cried…all in one meaningful conversation. She was a wonderful friend and will be missed dearly. I will cherish my memories with her. In the difficult time, I wish Hannah and Sam, and the rest of the family, peace and comfort. I am so sorry for your loss❤️🩹
