Garth Walker

Our cherished family patriarch, husband, father and grandfather Lawrence “Garth” Walker, 95, of Shoreline, WA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on September 4, 2022. He was born on February 3, 1927, in Lindon, UT to Lawrence Ross Walker and Dahlia Radmall Walker. Born into a loving and faithful family with seven brothers and sisters, his family remained dear to him throughout his life. He was raised on a farm where learning to work hard was taught and expected. This work ethic would follow him throughout his life.

Dad proudly served his country during World War II in the Merchant Marines and the United States Army, in the South Pacific. He dearly loved his country and the ideals for which it stands. In 1953, he attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. That same year, he met and married his adored wife Mary Gae Abraham in the Manti, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mary Gae and Garth then moved to attend Kansas State University, receiving his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Animal Science. His career was a perfect blend of his love of animals and farming. Rather than returning to his beloved Utah, Garth and his family moved to Seattle, WA where he would begin his professional career as an animal nutritionist. He ultimately became the Director of Research for both Western Farmers Association and Cenex Corporation.

Garth was a devoted husband to his wife of 69 years and a wonderful loving father to his seven children. His life revolved around his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and served faithfully and diligently in many capacities, including a full-time mission in Hartford, Connecticut, touching the lives of many. Dad’s life was deeply enriched by all those with whom he came in contact in both his personal and professional life

He is survived by his wife Mary Gae, children: Tim (Wilhelmina) Battle Ground, WA: Kim (LeaAnn) Mesa, AZ: Melanie (Clark) Bellessa Federal Way, WA: Robyn (Robert) Parker Seabeck, WA: Paul (JoAnn) Kent, WA: Jodi (Joe) Shoreline, WA: Carolyn (Cody) Thompson Gilbert, AZ: and 29 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. We love our father and grandfather and are forever grateful for his life and lasting legacy.

Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, September 10, 10:30 a.m. at the Shoreline Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 102 N. 132nd Street, Seattle WA. Family and friends may attend a reception from 9:30-10:15 a.m to pay respects to the family. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Utah on September 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Full military honors will be rendered.
