Jacklyn Steffan Brett
May 18, 1932 – November 18, 2017
Jacke Brett, a longtime Seattle area resident, passed away at Emerald Heights Retirement Community on November 18, 2017.
She was born Clarisse Jacklyn Jane Steffan in Whittier, California on May 18, 1932 to Clarissa and Everett Steffan. The family moved to Seattle in 1946. Jacke attended Helen Bush, Roosevelt High and then graduated from Bellevue High School in 1950 as the first Student Body President at where the high school is presently located. The University of Washington was Jacke’s alma mater where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching while an active member of the Tri Delta Sorority.
After graduating in 1954, she was a 4th and 5th grade teacher on Mercer Island, and then married the love of her life, Bob Brett, on June 29, 1957. They started a family and became members of Bellevue Presbyterian Church in 1958. She was a wonderful Christian, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer.
In 1983, Bob and Jacke started R.E. Brett Construction Company, where she served as Vice President. Yarrow Point was their home for 40 years until moving to Emerald Heights in 2006.
Jacklyn is survived by her husband, Robert E. Brett; son, Robert S. Brett; daughter Clarissa I. Brett and grandsons Campbell and Brighton Brett.
A memorial service & celebration of her Christian life is scheduled for 3:00 PM December 10, 2017 at Bellevue Presbyterian Church; 1717 Bellevue Way N.E., Bellevue, WA 98004. A reception will follow.
