Mildred A. Kennedy

In Loving Memory

Mildred 2014Born August 4, 1914 in Seattle to Edward C. and Jennie A. Jansen. Passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on October 22, 2015, at the age of 101. Survived by children Corinne Kennedy (Douglas Ring) and Bruce Kennedy (Barbara); granddaughters Suzanne Hunter (Bill) and Renae Kennedy; and great-grandsons Shaun and Logan Hunter.

As a young woman, Mildred worked as an executive secretary, not only in Seattle, but also in several other cities, including Indianapolis and New York. She met Edward L. Kennedy after he Millie-Edreturned from service in World War II, and they were married in September, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2008.

Millie was a wonderful cook, having taken over her family’s cooking at the age of 10. She also enjoyed and excelled at sewing, gardening, flower arranging, china painting, design projects, and playing bridge. She had a generous and loving spirit, and helped care for several family friends when their health began to fail.

After Ed’s retirement in 1979, they enjoyed many years of travel together – including car trips throughout the United States, and tours abroad.

The family is very grateful to the owner and caregivers of Taylor’s Adult Family Home in Burien, where she received wonderful, loving care for over six years. She remained involved with her family — and interested in the lives of others, current events and sports – until after her 100th birthday. Her ashes will be placed at Tahoma National Cemetery, and the family will hold a small gathering in mid-November to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington Trails Association, Disabled American Veterans, or the charity of your choice.
