Walter Charles Taylor
Walter C. Taylor Born: Cleveland Ohio March 15 1922. Died: Kirkland Washington March 25 2014. Walter joined his beloved Hilde after a devastating fight with pneumonia. Thankfully, his last days in Hospice care were peaceful and pain free. He passed away in the company of his immediate family on Tuesday March 25 at 2:20 Pm. It was a rainy blustery day and a few minutes after he died the sun shone as if to guide him along the right path. Thirty minutes later it began to rain once more. Our “POP” was a friend to all that crossed his path, very seldom spoke of anything negative, was completely dedicated to Hilde, his wife of 61 years and possessed the unique ability to take life as it came without complaint. An Army Vet of 21 years, he enlisted shortly after WW2 broke out, fought in the European Theater from North Africa to Germany. Walter had many jobs in the Army, Infantry, Military Police, Medic and Cook . After the War he met Hilde in Marburg Germany and in August of 1948 they were married. Hilde would be the love of his life and Pop remained dedicated to her for 61 years. She passed away in Oct 2009 at age 87. Walter’s army career took him all over the World, sometimes with family, many times without. He served in Europe, Panama, Korea, Puerto Rico and even with the U.S. Navy in Labrador and Greenland. Eventually finishing his service in Fort Lewis Wa in Aug of 1962. No memorial of Walter would be complete without mentioning his love of trains. As a young man he left home and “rode the rails” for a number of years before joining the Army. That love of trains stayed with him and soon after he retired he became completely immersed in model railroading, turning his bedroom into a 5×10 layout. Thankfully Pop was small and didn’t need much room for a bed. Hilde helped him from time to time with her artistic skills He was proud to be a lifetime member of the Puget Sound Model Railroaders Club… Pop leaves behind friends and family from California , Oregon and Washington. His ashes will be co-mingled with Hilde’s and be laid to rest with full military honors at Mt. Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. The date for the service is to be determined.. From all of us in final thought. Thanks for being our friend , our Opa, our Opapa, our Opapapa but most of all for just being our Pop…We love and salute you. Funeral arrangements by Barton Funeral Home Kirkland Wa.
