Barbara “Rae” Mathewson (Usitalo)
Rae passed away peacefully at Gene & Irene Wockner Hospice Center in Kirkland, Washington on August 13, 2012. She was 79 years of age. Rae was born in Bremerton, Washington and lived there most of her young life except for a few years in Pittsburg, PA and her later years in Bellevue and the Big Island of Hawai’i.
She is survived by her loving husband Ed, her son Steve Mathewson, her daughter Patti Mark, son-in-law Matt Mark, grandson’s Rudee Mathewson and Kekoa Mark, granddaughter Raelani Mark, sister’s Mary Garnet Scheidecker and Nikki Davis both of California.
Rae loved her family with all her heart. Family was the most important thing to her. She rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events and there were many. Rudee’s football, baseball and basketball games. Kekoa’s soccer, baseball, basketball, and golf. Raelani’s ballet, gymnastics and figure skating events. What a grandma!
She loved to cook and entertain, “the more the merrier” was her motto. When her house was full of guests she was the happiest!
Her passion was boating and traveling. Hawai’i was her most favorite place on earth. She spent many years on “Casper” cruising the Puget Sound and Canadian San Juan Islands. She was a member of Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club serving as the Mates President elect 1996-1997. She treasured her “girls weekends” traveling with her friends – yeah mom!
She will be missed desperately and thought of remembered daily! She loved life and “…she did it her way.”
A memorial service for Rae is planned for Sunday August 26, 2012 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club in Bellevue.
