Richard ‘Dick’ Downs, Sr.

Dick passed away in Bellevue on Tuesday, September 3rd at age 85.
He was born in Yakima, WA to Edna and Joseph Downs on December 8, 1933.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Dennis, his sister Pam, his son Rich Downs, and his stepson Ted Hagerty.
Dick went to Marquette High School and graduated in 1952. He went on to earn a full scholarship at Gonzaga University in basketball and baseball and remained an avid Zags fan his entire life. Dick spent 2 years in the Army and did tours in Europe. After his military service, he worked for the Department of Transportation for 25 years and helped construct Interstate I-90. He then worked several years for Puget Power as a right away agent where he retired.
Dick was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting, and golfing.
He was a kind and thoughtful man and a loyal friend.
Dick is survived by his devoted wife Vicki of 31 years.
He will also be missed by his sister Carole (Jess) Woodruff, sons Curt (Julie) and Brad, stepdaughter Cara (Billy) Burton, and 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
Dick’s wish was for no memorial service but that his ashes be spread where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and friends.

Good memories of pheasant hunting and water skiing with Dick and Curt. My condolences to family.
My deepest condolences. I remember so many wonderful times spent with Uncle Dick and family when I was growing up. When I lost my Dad (Dennis) Uncle Dick was so kind and spent a number of times on the phone with me, talking about Dad and helping me to get through my loss. He will be remembered fondly and missed greatly. Love and prayers
I met Dick before he and Vicki were married when he came into the bank to flirt with her….he always had a great joke to share and was good at making all of us laugh. A good man who will be missed and remembered fondly.
You will always be remembered in a loving way and you will live on in our hearts. Rest in Peace.
Dick was so special, always smiling and so glad to see us. One of the most kind and courteous men ever. So happy he and Vickie had so many wonderful years together, a perfect couple.
He would tolerate all of our many scrabble games over the years with Aunt Eleanor, Vickie and I, I will always miss him and cherish all the great memories of so many hours spent at their home. I’m sending my love, Marge
